Petra, located South of Jordan, is a 4 hour drive from Amman , and the best way to get there is to hire a taxi.
If you travel through Aqaba airport, it is a 1.5 hour drive from Aqaba to Petra.

What is Petra famous for:
Your trip to Petra should be planned and it is recommended that you learn about what is Petra famous for before you start your journey.
Entering from the main gate in Wadi Musa, you will walk to the entrance of the very narrow passage known as the Siq for about 15 minutes at a regular pace. Walking through the Siq to the famous Treasury (Al Khazneh) at a leisurely pace takes apprx. 30 minutes. The Treasury is almost 40m high and it has three chambers. It represents the famous Nabataean engineering.
Don’t forget to visit the tombs; the Urn Tomb, the Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb and the Palace Tomb.
The Dam which was built to protect from floods, was renovated just as it was built by the Nabataeans in 1964.
The theater is carved into the mountain and it has three rows of seats. It was built during the reign of King Aretas IV (4BC-AD27).
Petra by Night is an activity if you are spending the night where you will enter with a group of tourists through the candle lit Siq. Enjoy the silence and darkness in the charming Petra.

The entrance fees you pay when you visit Petra are as follows:

You can buy a ticket from the visitor center. These prices include a horse ride from the visitor center to the entrance of the Siq.
Another option is to hire a horse carriages from the Visitor Center to the Treasury and back for around 20 JD.
Camel and donkey rides are also available at an extra cost.
